![]() ophiodiicola was first isolated from captive snakes with skin lesions in the United Kingdom and the United States in the mid-1980s 11. Experimental infection studies have determined that the causative agent is the keratinophilic fungus Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola 6, 7, and the disease has been documented in more than 30 species of wild snakes in the United States and Europe 8, 9, 10. Ophidiomycosis (also known as snake fungal disease SFD) is an infectious disease of wild and captive snakes that threatens snake health worldwide 5. In combination with factors such as habitat destruction and climate change, these fungal diseases pose extremely significant threats to biodiversity and ecosystem health. Similarly, white nose syndrome in bats, caused by Pseudogymnoascus destructans, has emerged in the United States since 2006, spreading to 19 US states and killing over 5 million insectivorous bats 4. Chytridiomycosis, caused by the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis ( Bd), has been implicated as the cause of severe population declines in frogs worldwide 2, and the related pathogen Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans has led to local extinctions of newts and salamanders in Europe 3. These results provide important information about ophidiomycosis epidemiology, which has implications for snake conservation.įungal diseases have become increasingly prevalent in wildlife species over the past two decades 1. couperi had the highest prevalence of apparent ophidiomycosis this category was more prevalent in the subfamily Colubrinae and less prevalent in Natricinae. ![]() ![]() From Gennifer Flowers to Ross Perot to “Printergate,” the flow is relentless and the mobile cameras immerse the viewer in it all. The campaigners are all fully immersed in the moment, and every minor issue feels like it could not only make or break the campaign, but could change the course of Western civilization… until a few hours later when they’ve moved on to the next epochal sound bite or bombshell discovery. The film is packed with nifty incidents that reflect the ebb and flow of a campaign that can plan all it wants, but still has to react to unexpected events, something Clinton provided in unending supply. Stephanopolous (whose office was at a separate location) prefers to lurk on the periphery, but is capable of taking center stage when needed to defend his candidate, and his youthful idealism provides one the film’s most moving moments when he all but says, “Gee willikers, did we really just win?” Carville comes off as a dashing hero bursting with unflagging energy and righteous charm, which should be a lesson in the power of film to distort. With two pre-fabbed movie stars already in hand, Pennebaker, Hegedus and their camera crew just had to follow in their wake (easier said than done, of course), partly at the Democratic convention but mostly at war room meetings. At least by bartenders who didn’t melt under the gaze of his puppy-dog eyes. His firebrand personality and mastery of the good ol’ country-boy quote made him the easiest sell a film crew could hope for, and also set the mid-40s veteran up as the perfect contrast to the handsome, and quietly dogged George Stephanopolous, Clinton’s communications directly who had recently turned 30 but was probably used to still getting carded at local bars. They were restricted almost entirely to the titular War Room where, by a happy coincidence, they discovered a couple of stars who would burn every bit as bright on camera as the man from Hope, Arkansas.Ĭampaign manager James Carville was already well-known as the Ragin’ Cajun among politicos, but was largely an unknown factor the public. Only as a backup plan did they seek permission to film Clinton’s campaign team, and only through a minor miracle (and perhaps a little ego stroking) did they achieve that. Cutler, Wendy Ettinger, and Frazer Pennebaker) had originally hoped to follow Clinton across the country, but were denied access to the candidate. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, and producers R.J. ![]() Perhaps it could not have been made any other way. It’s a blast to watch, but a superficial experience that’s limited on insight. “The War Room” eliminated what must have been months of boredom, a long slog of volunteers copying flyers, crunching numbers and placing phone calls, and stitches together only the moments of adrenaline and caffeine-fueled excitement at several crucial junctures. An old saying about poker tournaments is that they consist of hours of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror. It makes for an undeniably exciting film, but also, I suspect, a fairly shoddy portrait of what it’s like to work on a presidential campaign. ![]() White is the trim color in the below pictureĬolor selection is an optional feature. Treemonisha was finally produced in full, to wide acclaim, in 1972. This was followed by the Academy Award–winning 1973 film The Sting, which featured several of Joplin's compositions, most notably " The Entertainer", a piece performed by pianist Marvin Hamlisch that received wide airplay. Joplin's music was rediscovered and returned to popularity in the early 1970s with the release of a million-selling album recorded by Joshua Rifkin. Joplin's death is widely considered to mark the end of ragtime as a mainstream music format over the next several years, it evolved with other styles into stride, jazz, and, eventually, swing. In mid-January 1917, he was admitted to a mental asylum and died there less than three months later at the age of 48. In 1916, Joplin descended into dementia as a result of neurosyphilis. ![]() His second opera, Treemonisha, was never fully staged during his life. He attempted to go beyond the limitations of the musical form that had made him famous but without much monetary success. In 1907, Joplin moved to New York City to find a producer for a new opera. In 1903, the score to his first opera, A Guest of Honor, was confiscated-along with his belongings-for non-payment of bills (likely as a result of being robbed). Louis, where he continued to compose and publish and regularly performed in the community. ![]() It also brought Joplin a steady income for life. This piece had a profound influence on writers of ragtime. He began publishing music in 1895, and publication of his "Maple Leaf Rag" in 1899 brought him fame. There he taught future ragtime composers Arthur Marshall, Scott Hayden, and Brun Campbell. Joplin moved to Sedalia, Missouri, in 1894 and earned a living as a piano teacher. He went to Chicago for the World's Fair of 1893, which helped make ragtime a national craze by 1897. During the late 1880s, he left his job as a railroad laborer and traveled the American South as an itinerant musician. While in Texarkana, he formed a vocal quartet and taught mandolin and guitar. The copyright for this piece was registered on July 21, 1900.Joplin grew up in a musical family of railway laborers in Texarkana, Arkansas, developing his own musical knowledge with the help of local teachers. This combination of elements points to the dance origins of ragtime. Instrumental rag evolved from joining the syncopated ragtime rhythms with the form and regular duple pulsations of the march. Marshall gave another explanation of the title's origin during a 1960 interview: he and Joplin had just delivered the music to Stark's office when two newspaper boys began quarreling outside, one swiped a newspaper from the other, and Stark, upon observing this, suggested that they name the work "Swipesy". Scott Joplin worked with both the ragtime song and the instrumental rag, but it was with the latter that he reached greatness. "Lets call 'Swipesy'," said Stark, and thus the title was decided. He was an American composer and pianist, who achieved fame for his ragtime compositions, and was dubbed 'The King. Louis, Missouri, and finally New York City where he died in 1917. Stark allegedly remarked that the boy's countenance seemed to suggest that he had just "swiped" something from a cookie jar. Scott Joplin was born in Arkansas in around 1867, just outside Texarkana, and was a street performer before settling in Sedalia, Missouri, St. The photograph which was to appear on the cover of the new (and unnamed) composition featured a young Sedalia newsboy with a shy expression on his face. Ī popular legend says that the title was suggested by John Stillwell Stark, one of Joplin's original publishers, when "Swipesy" was first being considered for publication. It is thought that Joplin wrote the trio and Marshall wrote the A, B and D strains. ![]() It modulates to E-flat major (three flats) for the trio (C) section, returning to B-flat for the final (D) section. "Swipesy" begins with a four-measure introduction in B-flat major (two flats). The composition was written in the late 1890s when Joplin was living with the Marshall family, and was teaching Arthur composition. Only the C section, composed by Joplin, departs from the cakewalk rhythm and is more pure ragtime. The style follows the AA BB A CC DD musical form common for both cakewalks and rags, particularly after the earlier publication of Joplin's hit " Maple Leaf Rag". "Swipesy" uses the simple syncopations of a cakewalk - the first beat being a sixteenth, eighth, sixteenth note division, and the second beat an even eighth note division. The " Swipesy Cakewalk" is a ragtime composition written in 1900 by a musical duo consisting of Scott Joplin, who composed the trio, and the young composer Arthur Marshall, who composed the rest of the piece. ![]() the bear caves sucked in real life their usualy near mauntains and they travel all over the place on majesty 2 it felt a bit cheap seeing the cave all close to my spot and their caves not near the mauntains. walls are cool so add simple walls at least with archers that will generate as you build the walls or with simple wizards. i think they should add this choice in each kingdom like the monster will have like 3 but you can only choose one from the 3 when dies revive as well and if not you will be able to change up the pet. ![]() they had guards but they did not add a guard pet. ![]() they should have a speed difference like high levels will run faster and low will run slower or something like that needed their. the flags sucked, you have to put tons of money in them in order to go far i mean tons and the minions dont show up glumped up they show up one at a time this sucked one gets their first if to level low it runs away this sucked about the game. the hole thing cartoony would be great so yea the maps lacked details. the maps where not all that great as well it could use real touches and props that look cartoony like bushes can look cartoony and trees and the other crap should look real the cartoony style in bushes and trees can give a plumped feel to it. man you need the monster kingdom for sure as well. Also, if you have any Lightning gadgets you’re especially attached to, such as a pair of wired EarPods, Apple is charging a whopping $29 for a USB-C to Lightning Adapter, which you shouldn’t waste your money on. Just keep in mind that you’re still getting the same USB 2 speeds for charging and data transfers as on previous iPhones if you want the super-speedy perks of USB 3, you’ll have to spring for an iPhone 15 Pro. You can even use your iPhone to charge a pair of USB-C earbuds (including the new AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C), which is something I’ll be glad to have handy the next time my AirPods inevitably die toward the end of a cross-country flight. The iPhone 15 comes with a braided USB-C cable out of the box, which feels nicer and more durable than the basic Lightning wire we’ve gotten with most previous iPhones. I just bought the $1,199 iPhone 15 Pro Max - here’s why ![]() When I unplugged my phone for the night and popped that same charging cable into my DualSense PlayStation 5 controller, I realized that it should have been this way all along. There’s something nice about reaching for one of the many USB-C cables I have plugged in at any given time and knowing it’ll work with my phone instead of wading through my mess of cords trying to find the special Apple one. While having USB-C on my iPhone 15 didn’t suddenly change the way I use an iPhone, I started reaping the benefits of it pretty quickly. For many folks, that means fewer cables that need to be strewn around your desk or couch - and also means less frantic fishing for the proper cord once you reach that dreaded 1% battery. ![]() Thanks to this change, the same USB-C cable you use to charge your laptop, tablet, gaming controller, Android phone or Nintendo Switch can now also juice up your iPhone. After much anticipation (and a bit of legislative pressure), Apple has finally ditched the proprietary Lightning jack that’s been around for more than a decade in favor of USB-C, a universal standard that’s used to charge just about any piece of electronics these days. New textures and colors are nice, but the iPhone 15’s most noteworthy change becomes apparent once you plug in the phone. ![]() One question that comes up with any love crystal is if you can use it to reunite with an ex.
